Analysis
This resolution authorizes the City of Milwaukee to become a community partner with the Wisconsin Office of Energy Independence through the Wisconsin Energy Independent Community Partnership to achieve the “25 x 25 Goals” of generating 25% of the City’s electric power and transportation fuels from renewable resources by 2025.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee recognizes that conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy protects the environment, strengthens the economy and reduces costs; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee recognizes that the public sector must be a leader in implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy in public facilities and infrastructure; and

Whereas, In April 2007, Governor Doyle issued Executive Order 192 creating the Office of Energy Independence; and

Whereas, The Office of Energy Independence is committed to supporting Wisconsin’s “25 x 25 Goals” of generating 25% of its electric power and transportation fuels from renewable resources by 2025, and leading the nation in groundbreaking research that will make clean energy more affordable and will create well-paying Wisconsin jobs; and

Whereas, The Office of Energy Independence has established the Wisconsin Energy Independent Community Partnership where participating counties, cities, villages, towns, tribes and schools will have additional access to state and federal funding, increased technical assistance from state and federal agencies, and improved energy efficiency that could create additional savings and capital availability for budgeting; now, therefore, be it
